Looking for an engine
Hello,
My Volvo v50 has blown its engine and I'm on the look out for a new or second hand one. So question, is there any recommendation for places to buy these please. I'm located in Auckland, New Zealand. Yes I've looked at Trademe and Facebook also looked it the Volvo dealers for one but no luck and some look dodgy Facebook ones. Help please and thank you.

your best bet is to search for breaker yards (aka recycle yards). Which engine does your v50 have? Check for the B code on the timing belt cover if you are not sure. Also what happened when you say its blown the engine? did you have a timing belt issue and now have damaged valves/pistons (meaning the engine can be rebuilt) or did you throw a rod through the side of the block.... Don't know if any US yards will ship internationally but there's a North America web site "car-part.com" that's a search engine for used parts. Its pretty useful for finding compatible models/years so even if you can't find a V50 you may be able to source an engine from another model/year.
You might try eBay in NZ (I assume there is such a thing).
The engine from an S40 (much, much more common in the US) as well as a C30 and possibly other variants should work as well. Just make sure the "part number" matches to avoid quirky troubleshooting trying to iron out the small wrinkles.
