Default Question about temp gauge shows snowflake in warm weather

Last night my outside temperature gauge showed 29 degrees F with a snowflake. It is was closer to 70 degrees F. Any idea what is causing this?

Thanks

Bad sensor? Bad wiring from sensor? The sensor itself is in the driver's side mirror housing.
