I plan to buy a 2006 v50 t5 and i want to know if there is anything i should look at before and if you have some advise for me???

is the supreme gas grade is an obligation on t5? and waht the mpg of the car? And the one i look at have the sport package option what is include in this package this year ( 2006) .

So maybe you could help me....

I bought a V50 non turbo a month ago and LOVE it. It is my 5th Volvo.
This is a very nice car. I have been putting 87 octane in it and no pinging or performance issues. Keep in mind, my last car was a 1993 245.

I have read that the computer in the engine will adapt to lower octane gas and retard the spark accordingly. I have also read that the turbo requires high octane gas due to increased pressure produced by the turbo as the mixture enters the combustion chamber.

If you use low octane gas in a turbo (I have read) there is a possibility you could harm your engine as the pre-ignition will place undo forces on parts not designed to handle them.

 

Fuel economy tends to be better with higher grade fuel. On my old 740, the difference actually made the higher grade pay for itself. May not be the case with the V50 (I don't have one), but I would still hesitate to downgrade.

Ya i just brought my like 3 months ago too non turbo, the gas consumption depends on the way your driver on the car. Plus you have the T5 which 4wd it'll take more gas then the non turbo, i always us 93 gas, less engine deposit and gives you like 700 more mile b4 oil change.

 

Wrong car, right engine. I think. 06 V70 "recommends" premium fuel, but does not require it. 2.5L T5. It makes no particular difference in fuel economy, either as I don't do much stop & go driving. On a level highway at constant speeds, the difference can't be detected by the trip computer. There is a power output difference as the premium gas has higher knock resistance and therefore allows more timing advance and somewhat more power at higher rpm's. In other words, with a modern car, you're not going to kill it with a few tanks of 87 octane gas. And, not all premium fuels have extra cleaners, either, as more and more regular fuels have these, too.
