Strange noise on startup
Hey y’all. New Volvo owner and new to the forums. Bought a 2005 v50 2.4i with 90k miles in pretty good shape during my test drive. Soon after taking my new pride and joy home I started hearing this strange sound after powering it on. I can’t really describe the sound but if you click the video you should hear it. Happens for a few minutes, 3-5 max, after RPM hits around 1. My A/C works intermittently as well and tends to blow cool air after 15 mins or so. Not sure if there could be a connection. No codes showing up on my reader. Happens with cold start only. Has anyone heard anything like this before? I’d really appreciate your thoughts on what it could be.
happy to give more info if it’s helpful! Thanks in advance.

It could be a worn-out serpentine belt or tensioner. As belts age, they can develop cracks or become loose, causing odd noises.
Another thing to check is the A/C compressor clutch. If it’s not engaging properly, it could be making a noise and causing your A/C to blow warm air sometimes.
Also, check the engine mounts and the fluid levels, especially oil.
