Default Temp. guage reads 30-40 degrees cooler

This evening I noticed that my temperature setting on the dash reads 64F degress. It is over 100F. Has anyone seen that before? is there a way to reset the thermometer? Where is the temp sensor? could it need cleaning?
Ideas?

Mine used to do weird things like that after I washed the car. I mentioned it to my service guy when I had the car in for other things. He didn't mention that they did any thing but it is fine now. I suspect that a connector was getting wet and they may have sealed it with dielectric grease. There have been similar issues with the door harnesses on these cars.

BYW, if you haven't found it yet, the sensor is in the driver's side mirror. It is that little bump sticking down.
