There really are no common faults with the SRS system. Unfortunately, you would need a special reader to get the trouble code. The Volvo VADA\DICE will do it. Other than that, you are at the mercy of Volvo service.

All that said, You could check the connector under the passenger seat that sometimes gets banged around from cargo that you might put on the floor. Have you done any work on the car recently that could have bumped a connector or pinched a wire? If so, you might look in that area. This happened to me when I replaced my alternator and knocked the plug out of the right front impact sensor.

If you are DIY, get yourself a DiCE / VIDA dedicated Volvo scanner, service database. If you pay for service, find someone to scan your car with a DiCE VIDA unit. It will describe the precise causes for the SRS Service Urgent message.

In my case, it was a single blown LED. The dealer wanted $1700 to fix it (by replacing the DIM).

 

Yes, I paid $125 for my DICE and it paid for itself in one use.
