I have a 2009 volvo v50. It has roughly 48000 miles on it. My wife just called me and said that the car will not go faster than 35mph. She shut the car off then turn the a/c off restarted the car and it wouldnt go faster than 50 mph. what could be happening?!?! it is our only mode of transportation! im in ft leonard wood and she is in 29 palms! so any advice or help would be great!

 

it sounds like your car is sorta in limp home mode. there can be multiple reasons to cause that thoug. any more information. did she say how the car was acting before?

 

Has the 'W' button been unintentionally pressed down next to the gear shift selector?
Mind you , the winter mode warning light should be on in the dash if that has happened.

 

if im not mistaken there is no winter mode button on 09 v50s

 

Damien - Not sure about the '09 but my '05 has one.

 

I have not personally owned a 2009 V50 but references on the web make mention, that year having 6 speed auto with winter mode or manual gearbox options.

Are there any warning lights at all showing at the moment?
i.e. ABS,Check engine,SRS etc
