Default "Check Engine" Holiday Blues

I drive a 1999 V70 with 101K miles. The car has been well maintained and is well behaved, but tonight the Check Engine light came on. No other symptoms that I can tell. I'm slated to make a 250 mi. trip tomorrow for the New Year's holiday. Is it sensible to proceed with the trip and tend to the fault upon my return? Or should I find some other means of transportation until I can get the car checked out?

Welcome to the forum Peter.

You will have to have the OBD2 Codes checked to know what is wrong. It could be just emissions, in which case, your trip will be fine. Go to Autozone, they will do it for you. Check back with the results.

Peruse the rest of the site, sign in the 'New members area' and search past posts for simular questions.

Thanks very much EricJ. I'm gambling it's nothing and have made it to the destination. Will get the onboard diagnosis codes checked as soon as the dust settles on the New Year. And a happy one to you. Peter
