Default 1998 S70 STD Help needed!! - Test drive result

I was test drivng a 1998 S70 I5 2.4 non turbo.
Transmission shifts very slow/turf from 1st to 3rd gear with quite of noises(like hole in the muffler) and vibration at accelation for those low gears.
First timedriving S70.The car is owned by older lady with only 79900miles. She said that shehas 3 cars and drives this one only 2 times a week for short distance(5-10miles). Could be the result of not much driving? or possible transmission issues? Reading this site, does not seem like that transmission is anusual problem for this car. On the freeway, accelation was very turf & slowto speed of 65miles. Could be I have been driving trubo engine cars? Please giveme somegood advices. I need this car for my mother that needs to be dependable in reasonable level. Thanks in advance with more advices about 1998 S70 to make sure before buy it.

Volvos can run just as easily with broken parts as any toyota or honda can, they just cost more to fix. But hey atleast it wont ever get stolen.

It is a well-known fact that Toyota has ruled in reliability for decades, plus the car will probably be cheaper to buy as well as maintain than a Volvo. You'd be giving up some in the safety area, though, so it's a tradeoff.

I agree, why would you buy your Mother a car with a standard tranny? There are far more of these cars around with an automatic.. and if it were my Mom it would be a Honda, Toyota, or Hyundai....BTW, this question should be asked in the S70 forum not V70...

that may have been Toyota's past reputation but they've been taking it in the shorts with reliability and build quality issues with the current generation Camry...

Well I guess this forum site is really active. I do not know why I put on V70 site when I meant S70 site. Transmission is AUTO not Standard. When the car moves from low gear with accelation, transmission shifts very slow and noisy in low gears with little vibration. Wondering if is normal..

OK, then what does 'STD' stand for in the title of your post then??? If you're used to driving turbo cars then a non-turbo would feel sluggish by comparison. As far as the transmission goes I'd get it checked out before purchasing the car....

Thanks. STD meant non-Turbo Standard Engine. kkk.. Anyway, thanks again. I guess I would not buy this car unless she gives me the discountfor the transmission. I think it is same feeling that I felt from theVAN failed transmission while ago.
