I am considering buying an '86 240 with tons of miles (probably around 240k miles) for $1500 (USD). It has been well-maintained and the owner has the service records for the past 10 yrs. A friend of mine is also selling his '99 v70 for $3500 (USD). It has 150k miles and has also been well-maintained. Which is the better buy? All I care about is reliability and cost (including cost of maintenance and repair).

Hi just my opinion ok. I had the estate version 240, 1986, now ive got v70 1998. luxury motor the v70, but problems with abs/tracks, service lights etc, and to be honest dont no anythin about the v70. they help on here, great people. but if im honest give me the 240 back any day, so simple to work on. loads room under bonnet to move. I found the 2.3 cc was better on fuel than the 2.1 as i owned both, perhaps the bigger engine handles the weight of vehicle better. and i liked the 740s better, lower to the road than the 240 and motorways were a breeze. but the 240 for me mate. good luck. John.
