1998 v70
HI all. I am looking to buy my first car and I have already made up my mind, that I am going to buy a Volvo.
I like the 5 door wagons, and have fallen in love with 240's. I have been asking questions and looking at 240's for quite some time now, but just recently started looking at V70's.
Can anyone help persuade me into buying a V70? I am looking at a black on black '98 wagon for $2700.
1.) Is $2700 a good price? It is a clean, AWD, Leather, Sunroof, all power options car.
2.) What should I be looking for when I take a look at it (I am going today!)
3.) Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Conrad

You will like the V70 wagon. I recently got a 1998 for $500.00 due to some issues the customer was tired of fixing since it was not well-maintained. $2700 is a great price especially since it's an AWD unlike mine.
The first thing is to verify when the timing belt was done. If there is no record, then change it anyway. When the belt goes, the valves will bend and cost lot's of money.
Good luck!

The car you are looking into, sounds good.
Wish I had the same kind of luck when I bought my 1998 V70 AWD.
I bought mine after an accident last year, when the insurance company totalled my 1995 855T5...... which i am still missing, was in perfect condition prior the accident.
When my 855T5 was totalled it had only 113K miles!! The current V70 has 117K miles.
One thing that is common with both car is the rear door...no.5!! The interior panel will easily come loose due to aging plastic connectors. Replace!! But not with OEM part from you local dealer, way to expensive....
Secondly, is the front upper spring seat..... if you hear any sort of clonking or creaking replace them!!!!!
I am to have my local shop do it for me, with either oem or second party part.
That way i will have warranty on the job and parts. I am getting the part my self.
The service station is a local with high reputation!!! Having both my Toyota Sienna, Volvo V70 and Mercury XRII service at their place!! Never a problem!
And I am providing them with the parts.
Even though it wasn't necessary when I got my car I had the belt changed.
Rear breaks is always a problem, no matter the brand of car...... most of the problems is that the parking break isn't used and therefore is locking themselves up and you have no effect in the rear at all.
Mine is the opposite, when changing from winter to summer tires, my local LeSchwab tire store, they said it is time to replace the pads at the rear......... I have 1mm left on the pads!!!! PBR or OEM pads???? Anyone???
Here is a strange part, about two month after I had driving my V70, the engine started to act wierd and stalled, loosing revs...... and the check engine light came on.
Got the car back to one shop with good referencess, and they said it was the air flow mass sensor that was faulting. That after two days of agonizing checking my account for how to cover this.
The air flow mass sensor is a sensitive part, reading the fluctance in voltage between many flat blades. If they don't read exactly towards the OBD, the engine will run like a halting V4. The part it self (OEM runs about USD 50.00) but it is a tricky job. Total for me ended up at 400 including all. Since that exchange my car is ticking just perfectly!
Finally, if I can find a 245 that has a good chassi I will buy one and transform it into a pickup! Have a welding company two doors down the street.
Back in Sweden there are several of 245 that has been transformed!!
