1998 V70 Base bolt pattern and CB/offset
Hi There. I did some research but I'm not sure the info on the Offset and Center bore.
I know the pattern is 5X108
I just bought a1998 V70. Base model, sunroof, heated seats. I currently have 195/60/r15. I don't know if they are 15x6.5 or 15x7.
I'm looking for new metal rims or mags. If I find metal rims with 5x108 that was on previous Volvo(don't know the year or model). would it be safe to assume the CB and offset would be ok. or is there different types of 5x108.
If I find 5X108 from other brands (ford, porsches..etc) would it be safe to assume CB and offset is standard?

My '96 850 wagon had steel wheels with xxx-60/15 tires. Don't remember if it was 195 mm wide or larger. My 2004 V70 has alloy wheels with 195-65/15 tires. This means that the tire size at the tread was increased from 24.2 inch in 1996 to 25.0 inch for the 2004. Of course, the the same wheel could take either tire, but you cannot assume the newer year wheels can be used in your 1998 unless you have authoritative info that they are.
Wheels from other manufacturers could be different in other ways. For one thing they might interfere with the brake calipers. Even if the bolt circle and the center hole are right, as you put them on (wheel well off the ground) check that the wheel spins freely without hitting the brake caliper. If you put them on tight without checking, the wheels could be contacting the calipers or could hit the calipers as soon as the car starts to move.
Go to the wheels section under accessories on the Volvo website to look for wheels that fit your car. (I don't know if this goes back to 1998, though.)
Here is some info from a Parts Geek site for 1998 Volvo wheels "• 1998 Volvo V70 ALLOY WHEEL; 15 X 6.5; 43MM OFFSET; 24 SPOKES; 5 LUG; 108MM BP; ARGO DESIGN; SILVER". It does not give the center bore.
I have seen reports in which a spacer ring is used to adapt a wheel with an over-sized center bore, and I have seen other reports of people boring out a wheel with a CB too small, but this seems like too much trouble to me unless there would be a big cost saving.

You are definitely not safe in using wheels that are not specified for your '98 Volvo. Among other things the center bore could be wrong or the shape of the holes could be wrong.

My rims are 6.5J X15 X 43 ... I found rims that are 6Jx15x43 i think they are for older modael (1992 Volvo 850).... would they work on my car? is the CB the same?

I don't know if they would work, but they might. You evidently currently have the proper size tire since Tirerack recommendation for tire size for the '98 V70 is 195-60/15 Tire Rack does sell 6J wheels for the '98 V70.

The factory rims are all stamped with their wide and offset (ie ET40 is a 40 mm offset) and the 850/V70 models use wheels with a 65.1 mm center bore.
You can certainly use after-market wheels or factory wheels but Volvos are "hub centric" meaning they use the wheel hub to center the wheel not the lugs... If you buy after market wheels, they need to be matched to the 65.1 CB or you may need to buy hub rings to center the wheel if larger. So if you are getting steelies off another Volvo 850, you are in luck. If you are trying to fit some other brand, best to know the model and search for that car's center bore (very common for VWs to run Audi wheels even though the center bores are different - people just know the numbers and buy the right ring). Also read up on how to convert tire sizes for correct rolling distance. Ie you can go from 195/60x15 to 205/50x16 etc. I run 185/65x15 snows on my 850T and upgraded my S40 from 195/60s to 205/50x16s for summer - all are the same rolling distance... You also get some flexibility on offset. Most Volvo 850s use 40ET but you can go plus minus 5 depending on look and wheel size. Also keep in mind some of the early 850s (92-93) actually used 4 lug wheels ie 4x108s...
