1998 V70 Radio
I just purchased a 1998 V70 GLT -
I called Volvo and got the radio code to match the VIN _ Yes I know if the radio was changed it would take a different code-But it won't let me even try a code-
When I got it -it showed OFF which I know is from entering the wrong code.
So per the Volvo tech I took the radio completly out of the car and let it sit for 24 hrs on my work bench- It still shows OFF
Any suggestions
Thanks
Jeff

In my case, I got fed up with tons of problems (backlight, codes, CD not ejecting etc.) so I got rid of the factory cassette-CD player and installed a brand new Blaupunkt Cd player which has an Aux Input in the back in case you want to have ipod hookup (Montreal CD34 to be exact).
I paid $100 incl. installation! Happy as ever.

I had the same problem and tried leaving the battery disconnected and it didnt work but after a call to volvo they said to leave the key to the on position(right before the car starts) for 2 to 3 hours and then the code word comes back up. worked for me today
