Default 1998 V70 Wheels - Looking to Upgrade

Greets all! Just bought a '98 V70 GLT, which I already love. Quite a change from the '78 240 I grew up with.

I'd like to swap out the standard 15" rims - and had planned on going to a 17" X 7.5" Canisto rims - however someone just warned me today how soft the rims are, and prone to bending. And that the ride would become MUCH more stiff.

Can anyone confirm this? Should I avoid going to 17" altogether?

If this is the case - does anyone have knowledge of Canisto wheels coming in 16"? I've tried to find them, but doesn't seem they exist.

Finally - if the 17"s are ok - could I hear a few tire options from users out there? I was looking at a P215/R40 17. Does this make sense? I'm trying to find a blend of performance, looks and ride.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

-Ben

17" wheels will work just fine on your GLT. If you go with 17x7 or 17x7.5 rims then you're probably best off with 215 or 225/45 - 17 rubber. Anything wider and you'll probably end up rubbing in lock to lock turns or the rears may contact the wells in the rear if you have a load or passengers in the rear seat and go over a significant bump, pot hole, etc. I'd suggest looking in the Swedespeed wheel and tire classifieds for some deals. I know that JRL has a set of refinished 17" Comets. They'd look great on your wagon.

Ditto. Put 17" Canistos on my S60. Canisto only came in 17". 225/45/17 should be the tire and yes the ride will be rougher but you'll look a lot cooler.[8D]

I have 17in Comets. I tried putting on 225-50 for more cushion at the tire shop and it would've rubbed. So 225-45 it was.
