Default 1998 V70R AWD Wiring/Other

I have been studying the wiring diagrams for my car in an effort to discover what was done to some connectors I found spliced up under the air cleaner box. A lot of the diagrams are specific to a given type of engine management system and the type of transmission in the car. How can I determine what is actually in the car? Via VIN, Chassis munber, some kind of tags on the car? The engine is a 5-cyl, turbo-blasted 2.3 L with spark plug wires and a distributor. The transmission is the automatic. The car has ABS and TRAC. What I seem to be slowly uncovering is that the V70R in 98 may have been closer to a 99 model than a 98. I find no real specific reference to a V70R anywhere in the wiring for the 98.
Reading a wiring diagram, Y/G does that mean a mostly yellow wire with a green stripe? Does Volvo use a single particular color for ground wires? My MB for example almost always use BROWN for ground.
My ABS/TRAC computer is due back this week and will be installed and tested. Hopefully this will go a long way to getting the car right.

Thanks for any and all advice.

The white sticker under the hood will tell you which engine is in there. It will say something like B5244t or something like that.
The trans should be a AW 50/40 transmission or something like that. My book doesn't get to specific.
It might also tell you on the sticker under the hood.

ABS/TRAC came back. Speedo and odo are OK now. ABS is working. No lights, I'll have to pop the dash and fix them, The odd wire splice I found was just that, a splice to replace a broken connector. Messy job that I've cleaned up a bit. I've got an expensive but well regarded indy lined up for a huge sorting out and maintenance run next week. 4 new tires go on tomorrow. Feels good on the road, not smooth, but strong and solid, I like that more than smooth. The interior is a little damaged and I would like to replace the front seats with new leather/alcantra but that can wait a bit. Bought a set of super nice rugs from e-bay, V70R even, they go in tomorrow. The A/C is nice and cold. The laundry list for the indy is long and probably expensive but I don't want to condemn the car because the prior owner neglected the thing. I paid about 6K for the car and am figuring on 2K for the additional work so for 8K or so I may have a pretty good car. The deeper I get into VADIS and the electrical diagrams, the less worried I am getting about the car. My whole rear hatch door thing busted loose today, guess this is a known issue with these cars, my next little project. Hope I can start loving this car soon. Seems an awful lot like a really beautiful girl with a drug problem though :-)

Glad it is all coming together.
The Rear tailgate you can buy a repair kit to fix. Easy to install.
