1999 v70 - ABS / brake question

Which light if it was a wheel sensor? ABS or BRAKE?
Reason I ask is I've had the ABS light periodically come on alone, as well as the ABS and BRAKE lights simultaneously over time. Never the BRAKE alone. My Volvo specialist has diagnosed it as an ABS module issue, and that it should be replaced. I want to avoid replacing the ABS module ($400 parts and labor) only to find out it was a wheel sensor down the line or the EBD (brake-force distribution). The manual says if the BRAKE and ABS lights come on together it could be a fault in the brake system (not specifying where in the system, but it is under the EBD section in the manual).
I had him look at my rear brakes while I had it in because they were squealing a little after only 500 miles since replacing pads. He said they needed adjusting (not sure specifically). I feel like the ABS and BRAKE light starting coming on after the rear brake pad change.
Is there any way these issues are related just to the pads not being done right, and there is no ABS module issue at all. I know this is wishful thinking.

Also, some people wedge something in their ABS module and get it to work for years. What code do you have? Most of those calipers have a wire plug going into them. Make sure it's plugged in.

If ABS light is coming ON intermittently it is likely the broken-solder-joints-in-the-ABS-module syndrome. Either get reman like Tony mentioned or DIY; i just fixed mine on the S70. Also rspi please don't repeat that "wedge" trick; that is a temp fix at best.

As a follow-up, it was the ABS module, which it turns out is the issue 95% of the time when you have an intermittent ABS warning light due to the chronic bad solder joint. Mine would set off the BRAKE warning light as well sometimes, which would make the car shift erratically, which would make the trans warning light (the arrow) come on.
I bought a re-manufactured unit from Matt at Midwest ABS for $89 delivered. Very helpful guy and the unit works great and it shipped the day I ordered it. As many others have testified, he's the way to go. I saved about $150 on the repair using him.
