2000 V70 GLT - Just a few questions
Hello,
I just got a 2000 Volvo V70 GLT automatic and over all the car is running great. There are only 2 minor issues:
1) Buttons on the right side and the bottom row 6 buttons of the CD/Radio is not light up at night. Left side buttons are ok
2) Shift selector indicator (P,R,N,D,3,2,1) is not light up either. Must be a bulb under it burned out.
How can I replace the light bulbs as mentioned in #1 and #2.

Since I got this car without any user manual, there are few functions that I am not sure of:
a) What is the big "W" button near the shifter? What is the "Traction control button" does? What is the different of the "W" and the Traction control? When does each need to enable?
b) What is the small "Shifter overide" button near the shifter does? Since this is my first automatic car (all previous cars are manual) so I not too familiar with this button for automatic tranmission car.
c) Is there any where that I can download a PDF version of the user manual of year 2000 V70.
d) There are some thread mentioned of software upgrade required for Volvo cars - how can I know if the previous owner already performed the upgrade or not (previous owner moved to the US so I have no contact)? Take to the dealer? Is the upgrade free or not?
Thank you.
1. You have to take the entire radio apart to replace the bulbs.
2. You will need to remove the console to replace the indicator bulb. There is 2 screws in the back of the console. Open the armrest cover and remove everything. In the bottom is a cover pop it out. There is 2 screws remove them. Then pull the e-brake handle up. Then slide the panel around the handle towards the drivers seat then slide it off the handle.
Lift the back of the console up and pull it back to remove. Then you can access the bulb.
3. The winter button starts the car off in 3rd gear when it is pressed to help with traction in the snow/ice.
4. The shiftlock overide button is pressed if the car will not come out of gear with your foot on the brake.
5. Not sure but someone should have a link.
6. You should be able to have the Vin # run at your local Dealer and they should be able to tell you what has been done.

Hi,
I guess I can leave the CD/Radio unit as is because I planning to replace it with an DVD/MP3 player unit soon. Replace the bulb for the shifter indicator sound simple enough, will replace the bulb this coming weekend.
Thank you "tech" for the info and "billofdurham" for the link to the user manual.
