Default 2004 V70 2.5T rattling noise coming from tailgate area

Where to begin...

For the past few months, there has been a rattling noise coming from the interior of my car, somewhere in the back. At first I thought it was the tailgate trim piece that covers the wiper motor, because one of the clips broke and it had quite a bit of wiggle room, so I replaced the clip, there was no more wiggle, but the rattling noise was still there.

So next I thought it was the license plate, so I put some foam insulating tape around the license plate bracket, and that did nothing either.

So I took it to my mechanic, to check over the suspension and exhaust just in case, and he said everything was in good condition, nothing loose or worn out too much. He said the previous owners replaced pretty much all suspension components probably within the last 50k KM (it's at 300k now). In hindsight, I should've asked him to drive the car to see if he could pinpoint it, but maybe after the post-thanksgiving rush I'll bother him again if I don't figure it out myself.

I've checked the obvious things, like tying down the spare tire jack extra tight, making sure there was nothing loose down there as well. There's no loose change anywhere.

It only happens on bumps/bumpy roads, and it sounds like either light metal again light metal contact, or plastic against glass, or plastic against metal.

Anyone have any idea what it could be?
