Car stopped running due to PEM failure and had the car towed home. Replaced the defective part, and started up fine but when I went to drive, I can only select reverse and back to park. I didn't know how much torque to yank on the selector and I attempted the manual release down inside the console without any luck. Any ideas what would have caused this issue all of a sudden?

 

OK, I have replaced a bunch of stuff but still stuck. I have confirmed the gear position switch moves in all its ranges when the shift cable was detached. Also, I confirmed the shift selector is not impeded when detached from the shift cable on the interior. With the cable detach, I was still unable to pull it to make position switch to move past reverse. Would this indicate a bad shifter cable? If this is the case, what would cause it to go bad all of a sudden?
