2008 V70 - Looking for input
We are looking at replacing our old VW Passat. We have come across a pretty good deal on a 2008 V70. We have never owned a Volvo before, but have a number of friends with older ones. The 2008 V70 model is claimed to be a "new design" for the V70 so the input from our friends may not be quite applicable since they mostly own late 90's models. We are wondering what experiences and/or input the forum could provide with this purchase in regards to owning a 2008 or newer V70. Specifically we are interested in reliability. We haven't been able to find much on the internet in regards to owner reviews and consumer reports gives this model year an average reliability rating.

Check some web sites for owner comments. Look at Edmunds.com and cars.com for owner's comments on their '08 v70s. Read professional reviews from Automobile.com, MotorTrend.com or other popular car magazine sites. Type "2008 Volvo V70 reviews" into Google and read the results.
Another thing to consider is who will service your Volvo? Ask other Volvo owners in your city to recommend a good Volvo mechanic. Independent Volvo shops typically charge less for repairs than your Volvo dealer, but remember that this is a complex luxury car and you don't want the neighborhood mechanic to learn how to service a Volvo at your expense.
I just bought my third Volvo, an '08 V70 with 31k miles. I'm selling my '01 V70 myself because I can get more for it than the dealer offered me. It's been a great car and I've had none of the transmission problems that are associate with that model year.
Good luck and remember this forum when you buy your Volvo. There's lots of good help here.
