Picking up a 2002 V70 at the end of this month. The only feature I wish this wagon had is the 3rd row seats. Is it possible to pull them out of another car from the junk yard and drop them into ours? Easy to do?

 

Yes you can do it. It is not all that bad.

This has come up a dozen times on here and everyone has been halfway across the country. I've got a 2002 with black 3rd row near Minneapolis, MN.

BTW, when I picked up the Volvo I inquired about the 3rd row seat and he (mechanic/body guy that repairs wrecked Volvos and sells them) said he's done it a couple times and the last time the junk yard charged him $200 for the seat and it was about $300 in labor. He said it was not too bad, just a matter of getting the belts installed properly.

Love the new (to me) V70 - 2002 with 70k miles. Great ride, looks sharp in black with newly tinted ($225) windows (20%).

 

I have the same question and was wondering it the 3rd seats from the older v70's will work in an 01? I just purchaced my v70 XC and i would like to add the 3rd seat soon and there are a few on ebay but is there a better place to get one? I have the light tan leather. This is my first post here and it looks like a great forum. Thanks.

 

For third row seats, from what I understand, the third row seats will interchange for the 850 wagons and 98-00 V70s. 2001 V70s are different. When removing one from a junkyard you will also need the rear back from the middle row seat. This is normally not included when you buy one off of ebay. When putting up the third row seat, there is a metal securing device that locks the 3rd row seat up into the back of the middle row. This prevents the 3rd row seat from folding back down onto itself. I did research this myself when I had a 850 turbo and wanted a third row seat, I almost purchased a third row seat off of ebay before I discovered it needs to latch onto the seat in front of it. I eventually purchased a 98 V70 with the third row already installed. The third row works great for the little ones!

I don't believe this is true. I JUST pulled a third row out of an 02 V70 and the latch operates a pin in the mounting hardware. You don't need the middle row at all from what I've seen

 

my description from 2010 about the locking latch refers to the 850s and the 98-00 v70s, not a 2002 v70. As mentioned then, they are different when they changed body styles.
