Default 98 V70 AWD clunk and jerk Vis/Cup or Angle gear?

Hi all - I have read the boards here since I got my 98 a year ago- I suffered the clunk and jerking wheels at slow speed full turn that I thought indicated bad CV's on the prop shaft. I did remove the shaft while waitng for FCP's parts to arrive and the car drove flawlessly...

HOWEVER, rolling back off the lift and in subsequent driving I discovered the joints were not the issue... So tell me would the car drive well with the shaft out if the Angle gear had died? or is it the Viscous Coupler binding the drive train?

It feels alot like when my ALFA 164 chewed up its front diff...

Does anyone on the list have methods (or links to methods) to determine what is broken?

Thanks for time and sorry if I might have repeated a question already solved and posted here

The angle gear only drives the draveshaft so if the angle gear was bad it would drive fine with the shaft removed.
