99 xc driveshaft
Hello, I bought a 99 v70 xc last month. The car has 150,000 miles, beautiful bronze. Yesterday I put it through a car wash-the type you put the car in neutral and the skateboard wheels push the car. When I put the car in drive and pulled out of the car wash, I heard and felt a banging from under the park brake lever at a rate of 2 times per second. I parked the car, looked underneath and saw what i thought was an exhaust hanger with one side broken, the other side attached. So I figured it was the exhaust hanger taking wacks from the driveshaft. went to the other side of the car and realized that the hanger is actually a mount for the carrier bearing on the driveshaft. so i take it the carrier bearing is shot...meaning the driveshaft it shot. i bought the car with a 3rd party warranty, but the warranty period doesnt start for 2 months. When I bought the car the dealership had put 2 new tires on the front-different brand, different tread pattern from the rears. shortly after i bought it, the car started shifting hard, so i brought it to a mechanic, he said the different tires were likely harming the drivetrain so i had him replace the rear tires with the same ones as the fronts. with the new tires, the transmission has been shifting normally. that was 2 weeks ago. i didnt hear or feel anything strange during the car wash. i had it towed to my mechanic so he can look at it tomorow. any ideas why this would happen?
thanks
thanks
just a follow up. The problem was the carrier bearing bracket. Apparently salt and debris made it inside and corrosion occured. The chassis wash tore it off. A new bracket was $100 and the car is back on the road.
