Default Air Conditioner Fan

The fan for the air con stopped working. It's the one behind the glove box. So I took it to an auto electrician. The new fan from Volvo was $370 here in Australia (!!) so I ordered a second hand one from Volvo parts in Melbourne for a lot less. The fan is working but the heater isn't. No matter what settings I try, cold air comes out. Is the thermostat for the air con contained in the part that was replaced, and now it's faulty? Has the auto electrician forgotten to reset something? He's not very experienced with Volvos.

Tell us what car, year ?????

Do you have manual or automatic climate control ??

Have you checked to make sure there is adequate coolant in the reservoir ??

You had it blowing heat up until the fan quit and now that the fan is working you have no heat ??

[QUOTE=Kiss4aFrog;352975]Tell us what car, year ?????

Sorry, I thought I posted in the V70 section, but maybe not.

Do you have manual or automatic climate control ??

You can put the climate control on auto.

Yes, that's OK.

Yes, when the old fan was working, the heater and cooler were fine. But now I have the new fan, I get cool air, but I discovered I get hot air if I put the dial onto the red section at the top of the climate control dial. But this is very inconvenient, because even when driving in the snow, the interior of the car soon gets too hot with the control on maximum heat.

The auto electrician had another look and said I'd just have to drive it with the control on the red in winter. He really doesn't have much of an idea about Volvos.

I can't understand why changing the fan has caused the climate control not to work.

Maybe you need to adjust your blend vent control on the dash.

Do you know what the "Air Mix" adjuster does? It's what Rspi is speaking of.

If it's open you get almost no heat. Check to make sure it's closed.

You're correct, replacing the blower shouldn't have affected it's ability to heat and there isn't anything I can think of that the mechanic could have done wrong or "bumped" while doing the motor.

And yes you did post in the 70 section but you wouldn't be the first person to post in the wrong section. I may have missed it but I don't think you've added the year yet.
It's more than me just being a pain, I'm asking because the more info you can give the better the response you'll get. They change things from year to year and being one year older or newer may make the difference from someone nailing your problem with a brilliant answer to telling you to check something your year vehicle doesn't even have on it.

OK, I'll check this out tomorrow. I'm glad it's nothing the auto electrician has done wrong and nothing to do with the second hand fan.
