Default Any nuances on replacing a shattered oil pan? Torque spec?

So... my middle spawn managed to meet the top of a manhole cover (his speed + a moderate rise + likely-tired struts) and do the above. He pulled over within a few feet, and despite the fact he briefly turned the car on again to roll up the windows ( - I told him how to do that without turning on the motor afterward...) it sounds like the motor might not be dead. I've had him buy a used oil pan from eBay, but want to know a few things:

1) From the pix, I believe I won't need a baffle or a new oil pickup - anyone disagree?
2) this is a silicone-from-a-tube gasket, correct?
3) Anyone know the torque spec for the oil pan bolts?
4) Any nuances to the job? It looks very straightforward and I'm a moderately-experienced wrench.
5) Anything else to do while I have the pan down (while-you're-in-there kind of stuff)?

Thanks!!

Think I got all the bolts off this evening (the 'bolt diary' wasn't full yet when I took this pic):

*sigh*

my guess is the special tool is a tiny paint roller used to apply the anaerobic sealant. Google Volvo 9512767

That seems to be the case.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a Permatex substitute? The dealer wants a legit $50+ for the official stuff.

The tools are a template to get the goo in the right place and a couple of line up pins. And if you google the volvo part number for the sealant - the letter rtv appears on some of the ads. Don't know if it's rtv silicome or not - I've never done one of those. The 5 cyl engines use an anerobic (sp) sealant that is rolled on - but that's a different Volvo number.

FWIW I wound up getting the Elring stuff from NAPA (mainly because IPD had a very-vague message about how long it would take to get it) - EL-Liq Anaerobic Sealant Gasket Maker. Nets to about half what Volvo wants for their goo.

I have to admit I wouldn't mind having a couple of the alignment pins, but I'm going to get a foam roller from HD, roll on the goo in a thin-but-even-layer and bolt that puppy up. I'm going to drive it a bit to make sure there are no leaks (I'm a bit worried other stuff might have cracked, but hoping the oil pan was fully sacrificial) I'm going to order the IPD aluminum splash guard and get some other over-due maintenance done - fresh struts/shocks and motor mounts.

Do the instructions from Volvo show a 2.5mm bead of whatever sealant they specify in a specific pattern? - A pattern so specific that a special tool was created for the installers to follow.

I would certainly use a roller for a pan and cam cover on a earlier 5 cyl - but there must be a reason Volvo wants that specific pattern.

It's a good point. I'm merging things I've seen on the internet, which isn't a very good idea in the face of the factory manual. I'll refer to this - and thanks again!
