Automatic "Check Engine" light reset?
Once a code is generated for the check engine light to come on, how many times do you have to start the engine before it goes back off on it's own if the code was only generated one time and is not a continuous problem?
OK. I'm sick of grabbing my scanner every time the light comes on. I just want it to store the code, tell me once, and then let it go. It's probably that same dumb P0420 message again. It's like clockwork now, once a month when I start it, then it goes away lol. I don't even have to check it now. I already know what it's going to be since the car runs perfectly.
Mine's driving me nuts. It threw 2 codes back in July, I couldn't get them to make any sense so I did the old "battery disconnect reset" and I didn't friggin see a code till 2 months ago! I just pulled them and one code was the same.... some people say exhaust manifold, some people say injectors, some people say catalytic converter. I just did the reset again, I figure 3rd time is a charm - whatever codes I get all 3 times I'll chase hehe.
Well, mine reset after 4 starts. I wonder if that's the standard. I'll just wait again. I'm with you. If it runs fine, it's probably just a hickup somewhere. I'm not going to start changing out parts for a code that's thrown once every month or two one time.
