beginning of the end - transmission?
we have a 2001 v70 t5 wagon that has been very good to us. we did not extend the warranty past the 100k and now are having some small issues. i have read that there is a problem with the 2001 transmissions, but i'm not sure if it applies to all models or just the xc70. there seems to be some confusion on this. what we are experiencing is this: when you come to a stop with your foot on the brake, when you release the brake you can feel the transmission engage with an audible "clunk" and you can definitely feel the car "get into gear" if you will. can someone tell me if this is the beginning of the end? is the transmission on the way out? or is this something a flush of the tranny fluid could alleviate.
thanks in advance.

Sounds like you need teh neutral control disabled on the car.
Volvo had it set up that everytime you coasted or stopped the transmission would go into neutral. They started having problems with it and decided to disable it in the cars.
It will cost about $30.00 for the software and between 1/2 to 1 hour labor.

Hello Tech,
I have the same car with a similar problem. When I apply the brakes it hitches and/or clunkswhen down shifting to a stop, then hitches and/or clunks to get into1st to move forward. Does the nuetral control apply in my case as well?
Hope you know. My local dealership can't seem to figure it out.
Thanks.

My T5 is having an even worse case of this same issue. It does everything described by everyone above. And the new bigggie - whenever I have to brake sharply, it has a terrible, clunking problem downshifting and then the message light for "Reduced Gear Selector Function" comes on. This light will only go off if I switch to manual shifting for awhile then restart the car. Sometimes, I can't switch to the manual shift - nothing happens. Do I need a new transmission? Do I need the switch adjusted? The PNP, the GSM? What are these things and can anythign be fixed short of the 4000. repair job?
