Best oil for V70 in Summer?
Hi, I have a 1998 V70 XC AWD 2.4 turbo. Can anyone tell me what they think the best weight of engine oil is for this car in summer, and also in winter. What brand would you recommend? Until now, I have been using 10w-40 in summer and 10w-30 in winter.
How about using synthetic oil in this car?
The car has done 162,000 miles.
Thank-you.

10w-30 is best overall hot or cold; although 5w-30 is great for -10 and under because of viscosity.
Synthetic: extreme temps hot or cold regularly or towing long distances.
Had a '94 850 wagon 7 years; did great in extreme cold with 5w-30. Now I have a '98 xc awd. Love this car.

There is a oil thread in the general Volvo chat section of the forum. I would go with 10w-30 year round unless you are in a climate that the temp gets over 105 in the summer. Then I would run 10w-40.
I do use full synthetic in both of our Volvo's. Keep it changed every 5,000 or sooner. Run Lucas injector cleaner in the tank twice per oil change. Use oem or mann oil filters.
