Default Bonnet release cable snapped.

Went to start car this morning & the battery was flat. Pulled bonnet release handle & the cable gave way.

Its snapped quite far down so can't get at anything with pliers. Anyone any idea how to get to the central catch to open the bonnet?

Took the front grill off but can only get at safety catch & that obviously doesn't do anything. Can't work out how on earth I can get at the mechanism without taking the whole engine out!
Must be a way. Anyone got any experience of this?

So a simple little job has become a bit of a nightmare.

Hello, What does "P" reg correspond to in model years? Please wait for rspi's response because he knows a lot BUT I've read that you must sacrifice (break) the parking light lens to get the headlight unit out of the way. I've never read any post which refutes this instruction. I hope there's another way. Kira

P reg is 1997.

I'm also in britain, not sure if that makes any difference to the car mechanisms apart from the stearing being on the other side.

Thanks for that. Can I just clarify something? - In the post they refer to the "marker light" - is this what we call the indicator?

went in underneath the car & removed the lower radiator fittings which gave access. Took a bit of time but didn't have to smash the headlamp/indicator!
