I need a bit of advice here. The pump on our 2000 V70 whines after going for a typical drive, say 5 plus miles. The whining gets worse the hotter it gets. My gut instinct is that the seller (a wholesaler) dumped regular fluid in the reservoir or a quieting agent.

Research has shown that the fluid needed is actually Transmission fluid, but is that typical atf fluid or the volvo specific tranny fluid? How do I completely drain the fluid from the system including the rack and pinion?

I'm going to try a flush before replacing the pump.
