Default Check Enginge Light & Timing Belt??

I completed my timing belt change on the wifes 2003 V70. Performed a plug change (w/ Volvo fancy plugs). Assembled it all and now I have a check engine light.

Installed new tensioner and idler pulley. This has to be the most difficult timing belt change I have worked.

I had problems in the past with check engine lights, mostly MAP and a ?? pressure sensor. This ranged from faulty sensors to broken hoses. The dealer performed the work prior as it was under a 100K warrantee.

Any thoughts as to what this light may indicate?

Everything is working great, averaged today 32 mpg.

What code reader is worth while to buy? I want to keep the cost uner $200 and one that is upgradable has merit.

Thanks!

Possible past codes coming back to Haunt.

The Tooth on the belt could be off by one.

I replaced the air filter too. I checked the two (2) little hoses.

The cams are exactly the same - I marked the old belt teeth. I marked the back side of the cams to the head and never touched the crank. Runs good - no difference from before. I averaged 32 - 32.5 mpg (highway) yesterday.

What code would be set?

Amy idea what is a decent code reader?

Thanks!

If it was from the belt it would be a code that would lead to like a VVT code.

Not to sure about an aftermarket scanner the ones we use Cost over $3000.00.

I pulled the code at AutoZone.

P0011

Cam Shaft "A" Positon Sensor in bank 1 indicated inadequate performance or a timing over advanced condition.

I have a slight miss for a few seconds at start-up (say 5 seconds) then all fine. Pleanty of low end. 30-32 mpg. Above 5 K it seems to ping and run out of power. Could the cams be one tooth advanced, that is to the right. Everything I did I took pictures and all appears to be aligned.

Thanks!!

Thanks

Exactly, I was one tooth advance for both cams (good thing in that the cams were set between themselves).

It sure is a pain in the fanny seeing the two (2) "V's" on the crank gear with the pulley in place. There is roughly 1/8 inch play alighning TDC. When TDC is zeroed in and looking at the timing markes on the timing gear cover, it was like splitting hairs.

No check engine light. Pulls up to the red line now. I do miss the low end power. Makes sense though, car had a lot of low end but would ping at the high end (say above 5 grand and powe would taper off as well). Since I rarely drove it, I noticed nothing diferent with exception of much more pinging and of course, the CEL. Again, makes sense as more cam advance adds more low end.

Now, help me out. The var-cam system on the intake cam appears to advace the intake cam. To me, this would add more low end. Correct me here, isn't the object of var-cams to add more upper end power? How does the Volvo system function?

Thanks!!

It works off oil pressure from the oil pump.
The engine computer controls the Valve that works the VVT.

Inorder to get the Max out of it you would have to upgrade the ECM.
The ECM is what is restricting it.

They are programmed to Limit Boost and Timing at Lower RPM to help keep the tires from spinning.
