Hey Guys-
Just curious about what an acceptable compression test result is, also what's bad and what it is when the engine's brand new.

 

maybe my post before was worded poorly. I was wondering if anyone knows what compression values are when the engine is in pristine condition, what an acceptable range is, and what values signal that the engine needs some work.

Information in Haynes gives a range of 11 bars to 15 bars with a maximum variance of 2 bars, or 10%. Below that, you'd notice considerable oil consumption. (150-200 psig)

Hello, I did a compression check in my 1999 years ago.The readings were within 4% of each other. The squirt of oil into each cylinder for the second round didn't change a thing. My old plugs were worn and ashed up identically. I just can't recall the psi reading. Keep in mind that the value indicated on the guage will vary with tool quality, wear and design. If you were near No. New Jersey we could knock this out. Kira

 

We just did a compression test on our two recently purchased 2001 V70 T5s... My car had a engine that was supposedly rebuilt 40k ago... it had 170psi on all 5cyl. Out other car has 118k and it had 160psi to 170psi on it.
