Considering 1998 Volvo V70 X/C AWD Turbo. $1000 Worth it?
The seller seems to have put some work into the car, the main mechanical issue he/she claims is it needs a CV boot. I'll post a summary of the listing below. I'm new to Volvos but I like the features, good cargo space, the price is ok, volvos seem to have a good community for fixing them. I like to do as much maintenance/repair that's practical on my cars my self.
I am offering a 1998 Volvo V70 X/C AWD, 5-Cyl, Turbo, 2.4 Liter, power windows, tan leather seats w/wood grain accents, power door locks, moonroof and sunroof, power steering, ABS, AM/FM stereo and Panasonic CD player, power side mirrors, power seats, air bags, seat warmers (one on drivers side is not working, needs button I am including put on in place of the old one. Heater and AC work great. Lots of storage. Spare tire included. Rear spoiler.
I haven't started it in a couple weeks and the battery died.
I will put it on the charger and get the exact mileage tomorrow (Saturday 4/1/17), but it's right around 235k miles. It runs and drives, handles well. It has normal wear from a few dings, some deteriorating of the tint on the front passenger window, a couple tears in the drivers seat, some other odds and ends throughout etc. All doors open/close, all windows work. A light came on the dash last time I drove it.
Comes with additional parts for repairs that are advised as well as additional parts that may be used down the road. I bought them at a Pick N Pull yard off a parts Volvo that was the same make/model and year. I like to use original parts where I can and keep some on hand to save money.
Included are:
~Parts for repairs recommended (complete hood cable/release assembly, grill and seal, seat belt connector for backseat, etc.)
~I picked up a cargo net/cover that rolls out from the back seats to hide what's in the back of your car.
~Also picked up the side cargo nets and brackets for the back that keep things from sliding all over
~There are all the original floor matts and some extra matts as well.
~Extra parts that aren't needed for repairs but handy to have and included are:
~Hoses for various parts of the engine
~Drivers side headlamp assembly (original Volvo with glass lens)
~Power Steering Fluid - CHF11S paid $27 for it and it's still mostly full)
~Castrol ATF (automatic transmission fluid) ~almost full
~3 oil filters 1 Wix and 2 Microgard all 3 new in box for this Volvo
~Misc light bulbs for replacing later
~Drivers side butt warmer switch
~Misc Volvo nuts and bolts (it can be a real pain and expensive to replace lost ones down the road so I bought quite a few)
~Extra brake foot pedal rubber cover
~Misc extra clamps, plastic covers for misc, replacement clamps for cargo nets, etc.
~~~~Recent repairs and inspections:
~In 2015 it got a
New Windshield
New Battery
New Tires
~8/17/16 Oil Change w/partially synthetic oil at Firestone Complete Auto Care. I haven't drove 3k miles since.
~~~~The following repairs and maintenance were done by myself in addition to normal maintenance:
~ 09/2016
Coolant flush and new Heater Core installed and new Volvo gaskets.
Sunroof/Moonroof cleaned and lubricated.
Broken heater vents replaced w/original Volvo parts
Replaced windshield washer fluid cap with a used one from another Volvo
New OEM front passenger headlamp side light and housing
Needs a new CV boot on passenger front. Driving it home probably won't be an issue, but I'm a stickler for maintenance. You could drive it but I wouldn't recommend it.

Welcome to the forum. The best way to determine the market value of a car is to a) understand what needs to be done to make it drive right and b) what similar models are selling for. For the first question, the big questions are why is the battery dying if its 2 years old (usually something simple like a glove box light is stuck on but needs to be checked out) second is what critical maintenance is due - most important here is the timing belt should not be over 10 years or 100K miles. Does the AC blow cold? If not, could be a leaky evaporator which is a $1000+ repair (like 8-10 hours of shop time to pull apart the dash). What light on the dash is on? If its a check engine code, you should have the codes read to determine if its something you'd need a shop to fix. Finally the torn CV boot will lead to a worn CV joint. The boot costs $15 the axle will cost $400 for OEM but you may find a rebuilt for $100 (eBay etc). All the other stuff is somebody else's junk. Given the issues, it sounds like a project car not a daily driver (yet).
