eBay remote? Will it work
Well my remote finally gave out on me. I took it apart and the switch for the unlock button broke clean off the circuit board - not much of a chance there for revival.
I have what I think is the "older" style remote. The key is a separate piece and the remote is its own piece. Does anyone know if these can be programmed at the dealer?
This is one of the ones I'm looking at:

My dealer said they couldn't do it, and I had to buy one of the new ones from Volvo. VERY pricey. They claim they have to have the original code number for the car it went to to reprogram a used one. I think it's a scam myself, what makes a new one so different? I've seen other members report success, so my suggestion would be to ask your dealer if they can before making the e-bay purchase.

The newer remotes with the key integrated require the code. These wont, but who knows if this remote is any good.
All they need to do is download the software, press some buttons on the remote and voila!!! They need to erase the others if you dont have them. Tell them this or come visit ME, in FL.

Hmm .. no I'm in CT most of the time when I'm in The States. I do go to FL a lot but never w/ a car.
I guess I'll just call the dealer and ask them. I've never had a good feeling about the dealer. i ordered an extra key a few years ago and the dealer literally did not believe me that I did not have the one-piece key/remote. I had to physically drive to the dealer and show him remote in one hand and key in the other before he believed me and would order the key so who knows.

There's 2 dealers near me. I called the other one (not the guy who didn't believe that i had a separate key) and they said as long as the remote is not broken and it's the same part # then it should be no problem to reprogram it. Looks like I'll order one and see what happens.
I fix Volvo remotes. I will repair your circuit board and eliminate any hassles with purchasing a replacement or programing. Tony amp1117@yahoo.com
WOW - i completely forgot I made this thread.
The dealer changed his mind when I got there. Said he needed the "code" that went with the remote. Here is the conversation that took place:
Me: "Where am I supposed to get that?"
Dealer: "It's on a piece of paper in the bag when you buy it"
Me: "I bought it used ... just like I told you on the phone I was going to"
Dealer: "oh - so you don't have the paper"
Me: "No"
Dealer" "oh - then I can't program it"
Me: "It would be really cool if you gave me 100% of the truth next time I call you instead of 85% of the truth"
Dealer: "yeah I guess that wasn't very cool of me"
So are you guys saying I should mail you these two and you can make one good one from it? hahaha.
So now I"m back to having one remote broken and one unprogrammed used remote.

Don't feel alone. I also took the e-bay bait and then found out it couldn't be programmed. Every once in awhile, a member posts that this is possible. I'd really like to find out how that is possible, as I've talked to several dealers since I was scammed, and they all say EXACTLY the same as yours did. No code, no program.
BTW this applies to Keys too. I had misplaced a key, so I purchased a new one. When the key finally arrived, I called in to schedule an appointment. They told me nothing. So I arrived, asked for the service, and they ask me where are the rest of the keys, as they ALL need to be reprogrammed at once. Well, I didn't bring the rest of them, because no one told me to bring them. They then state they will program the new key to the code the car came with, so all the other keys will still work. The short story is they programmed the new key and it works, the bad news is that all the old keys now DON'T work (including the one I drove it there with)! One-step forward, and 2 steps backwards as my Valet and old spare key no longer work! Did the dealer cover any of the problems they caused, Hell NO!, and that is why they have not seen another of my dollars in the last 10 years. I'd give high points to Lawrence Volvo of Walnut Creek for all they have done for me, but this incident could have been worked out, but since they wouldn't budge, I now do my business elsewhere.

I restore the operation of your original remote. No need for replacement or any programming hassles! See my other posts on flip key, aka switchblade key fix, and remotes. amp1117@yahoo.com tony p
Tony,
Is the KEY WORD "Original" remote? If I was to forward the e-bay remote I bought, How would you know how to program it to my vehicle? I still have 2 remotes that do not work. What would it cost to make them functional again?

Very key. I can not program an ebay remote. Your vehicle needs to be programmed. I restore originals only. Volvo sites rules prohibit doing business and I adhere to the forums rules. You can contact me at amp1117@yahoo.com Thanks, Tony
I dont' fault the eBay guy at all since he specifically said "idunno - ask your dealer"
The dealer is an a$$ for telling me "Sure i can do it" and then telling me "nosoupforyou" when I actually came in.
Oddly enough I had no problem ordering a new key and having the key programmed there.
tpsells: I sent you an email.
