Default ignition problem

hello, i own a 1998 v70 vc. the car runs fine, but when i turn the key to the off position, it doesnt turn all the way to zero, therefore the key will not come out of the ignition. Ive been told that it could be the "parking solenoid", and ive also been told it is the ignition switch. i cannot find any information on the parking solenoid. it sounds like the fix will not be cheap, so if possible i would like to fix it myself. can anyone help me?

Make sure the shifter button is out all the way.
Also make sure the shiftlock override button is up all the way.

Both of those things will stop the key from coming out.

Hey tech,
How do you get the shiftlock override button to pop back up?

I usually spray a little WD-40 or something like that on the button and keep working it till it comes back up. Sometimes you have to use a really small screwdriver to pop it back up.

hey tech, thank you for the advice. the shiftlock override button was depressed. you probably saved me a couple hundred dollars. the local foreign auto service shop probably wouldve changed the ignition switch and not fixed the problem. thanks allot
