Default Instrument Cluster 2003 v70

Can anyone give me some advise on my instrument cluster . It stopped working about 2 weeks ago and it comes on from time to time when it feels like it. I know that the new cluster has to be programmed but has anyone been able to replace it with a used one or do they know of any affordable repair shop in Toronto Ontario that specializies in this. The car is to old to dish out 1500 to 2000 dollars.

Thanks

Cagg56

a used one will not work, it has mileage programmed and other parameters.

Default Several shops

Hello Cagg56, Sorry for the absence of meat in this answer but I've read threads like this before, have seen links to several "instrument cluster repair" shops and have seen banner ads too. Search Matthew's, Brickboard and volvoforums.org.uk. Kira

My 2003 v70 instrument cluster started to go blank intermittently and then completely died. Dealer told me it needed to be replaced at a cost of $1,500.00. Too much for me so I took off the front cover panel and found that by sqeezing on the top left corner the cluster would turn back on. Most of the time the speedo and tach would not work but the gas guage, lights, blinkers, temp etc would. I am not handy so my buddy took out the cluster and fixed it in an hour. Just needed a thin spacer installed between the rear cover and the circuit board.

thanks for the tip...worked a treat for me, saved me a good few ££ removed the white plastic backplate and placed a piece of alum about 2mm thick on the alum plate which is raised off the circuit board.. it seems to be a heat dispersant plate.. replace backplate and thats it!!
