Default 2003 s60 instrument cluster

So I have a 2003 Volvo s60 and the instrument cluster had been working when it wanted to. My husband read another forum that it's either the instrument cluster soldering or the instrument cluster. So he re-did the soldering and it worked... for about 3 days. Then back to off and on. So we ordered a new one hoping that was the fix. And that one doesn't work! Help! What else could it possibly be!? Thanks in advance.

You ordered a new one? Brand new? Or a salvage used one? The ECM won't recognize a cluster other than the one that came with the car without using the vida software to make it work together. Have you seen the DIM repair thread here https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...-repair-63276/? I just sent mine to BBA for a "rebuild" that comes with a lifetime warranty. You will still need a shop with the Vida software to clear the SRS service message when you are done.

So I just realized that when I push and hold down the odometer button the cluster starts working. Loose wire?

Not likely. DIM's in this vintage are famous for needing to be resoldered.
