Default Intermittent Check Engine Light

I have a 1999 Volvo V70. My problem is this: the check engine light will come on,stay on for several days, then go off, stay off floor several days, then come back on. When the light is on,the OBC shows a P0014 code, which could be anyone of several different things. My question is which option is it? Is there a quick fix for it? Taking it to the dealership is a last resort... I just don't want to deal with their constant attempts to over charge/rip me off.

Unless you know these engines' inner workings pretty well, you're going to need a tech with some experience in this area, whether that's the dealer or a good indy Volvo tech. I.e. AFAIK this is not a code with common failure mode.

Code P0014 "B" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)
