Default Internal fan not changing temperature with dial

Hiya,
Just bought my first v70, a 55 plate 240 diesel. Love it!
I am however having a weird issue I'd be grateful for any advice on. Basically my passenger side air vents are pumping out either super hot or cold air, regardless of what the temperature dial is set to. No issues driver side, that gives me whatever the dial is set to.

Are there any things I can check before taking it to a Volvo garage? My step dads a decent enough mechanic who's built his own cars, so we should be able to check a few things but neither of us have dealt with volvos before so any pointers would be great.

Thanks!
Alex

The automatic temperature control is digital, so I don't know that it's possible to really "fix" any electronic problems it may have. If the stepper motor positioners go bad they can be replaced easily. I suppose it's possible that the blend door linkage came loose from its stepper motor, which would be even easier and free. If you take the glove box out I think you could see reasonably well on the passenger's side, so you might be able to check that.
