Default just changed cabin filter..still get funny smell?

1st...NOTE TO SELF....get a garage to change this filter..hahaha What a pain in the neck! who thought of putting it so tightly in the foot well should be shot!

2. i was always getting a funky smell( mix of bleach and dirty feet..yummy yummy!) when i turn on the fan and a/c...so after changing the cabin filter (with the charcoal one) it still has this smell, it's a bit better but still there...

any other suggestions? is there maybe another filter i didn't notice? thanks

Maybe try spraying some of the odor killing spray in the system.

Hey Tech...i think it's okay now..i guess it just needed to runa bit and sit (the filter ) well in it's seat....there is a very faint smell from time to time...but the charcoal filter works very well and i find the air is "crisper" in the car.thanks

I had a very similar problem with my 2007 Toyota Yaris. I changed the (sad excuse for a) cabin filter to no avail.

The Toyota dealer sprayed some foam into the air conditioning vents. They used long tubing to shoot it way down deep inside the ventilation system. This foam (they called it an "astringent") killed off a lot of mold and mildew that had collected internally from the natural AC condensation.

Granted, the design of the Toyota vs. Volvo is probably radically different, but I will say that the astringent foam treatment the Toyota dealer gave my Yaris was the best 50 bucks I ever spent on non-mechanical maintenance.
