Default Looking at a 99 V70 wagon

I am a new hear and have never owned a Volvo. I am looking for a good car for a good price I found a V70 wagon with 116K miles for $3990.00 It seems like that is a good price but I thought I would run it past you guys. I don't know if the timing belt has been done.

I do have some questions.

[ol][*]it looks like a timing belt should be less than $700.00 - does that sound correct?[*]are there any issues with the 99 V70 there was a post that mentioned electrical problems.[*]Over all they seem like they are much less costly to maintain than an Audi A6- is there anybody that can compare?[/ol]
Thanks

I have a '98 V70 T5 with 155k on it. Love it!!! That is an excellent price for the vehicle, you should get the timing belt and water pump changed if they haven't been, you can definitely have this done for $300 including parts and labor. Also, make sure that the control arms, tie rods, ball joints, and c/v boots/joints are all in good condition. If they have not been replaced you will most likely need to replace them within the next 30k. The only issues that I have read about with these models is that the abs module sometimes goes out. Hasn't happened to me.

Be sure to check if the ETM updated software has been installed and also if the actual ETM has been replaced.

That does seem like a great price - I paid a good bit more for mine and it had ~160K miles. With this forum, I have been able to keep the repairs inexpensive and learned a lot about the car quickly.

Looking forward to hearing what happens. By the way, one thing that I was concerned about when I bought mine was that the engine was revving up and down a lot. That is a faulty throttle body and is covered by Volvo. Got that fixed pretty soon after getting the car and it's been running very well since. Seems that the previous owner didn't know it could be fixed for free.

Yes that is what I was talking about when I said ETM.

A good price indeed! I paid $4000 for my 98 V70GT (120K) earlier this year. I bought it in January and I didn't find out until later that the A/C didn't work. Mine also had the problem with creaking when the wheels turn hard either direction at slow speeds. Aside from that, I have put 10,000 miles on it and find it to be a very enjoyable car to drive. Get a CarFax and ask for any available service records from the owner. Good Luck!

I sold my '97 850 T5 with 157k for more than the V70 you are looking at. Definatly a fair price.

I have 99 V70 5 speed with 202k,that still drives like new. Repairs are few and far between. I'll buy another if this one ever dies. Eric J
