Default 98 V70 Starter Issues

So, I am hoping someone can healp me with this one. A few months ago, the starter on my 98 V70 started to do nothing when the key was turned. I replaced the relay, no help. I would have to whack the starter with a wrench to get it to go. That got worse and worse, and my shop told me it was time for a new one. So - new one installed, working great until now. I am having the same problem again. When I hit the starter, it works, and the weird thing is I am getting a faint click when I do hit it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I could be wrong here, but when that happened on old cars I thought it was the solenoid that needed replaced first and if that didn't do the trick it was the starter. I'm testing my memory here though I have to admit.

The starter should still be covered under warranty take it back to your shop.

^^ that. Don't tell the shop that you have been hitting it either.

It sounds like the starter might be getting too much power and frying out.
