Default Looking to buy a 2001 or a 1999 v70 XC

Hello,

Im looking to buy a 2001 (157,000 miles) or a 1999 (156,000 miles) v70 XC. What you you all recommend. I use to have a 850 in high school and loved it and loved how reliable it was. Im looking for something reliable since Im in grad-school and I don't have much money to spend on fixing a car. Would you recommend any of these? What should I expect if I do buy one?

Thanks everyone

I believe the 1999 does not have VVT where the 2001 does - which complicates the timing belt service and adds some risk of a VVT gear failure. The 1999's transmission and bevel gear (function is similar to a 4X4 transfer case) are known to be problematic, not sure if those design issures are shared with the 2001s. The later years (ie 2004+) don't have that problem. IMHO, a better bet would be to get the FWD V70 if you can find one in your price range unless you live in a cold climate where AWD is a desired feature.
