Default MBC and BOV on a 98 need pointers

Ok, time to start modding the 98. I have some leftover parts from my DSM and am considering putting them on the V70 AWD.

I have a TurboSmart E-Boost electronic boost controller and a Turbo XS RL BOV.
http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/tu...0e%20boost.htm

My questions are:

1) Where is the best place to tap into for the Controller/Guage combo?
2) Can I run a vented BOV, or will this throw a code?
3) Assuming the stock fuel system is functioning properly, what boost levels will the bottom end handle and fuel system support? I can program various levels for various gears if I can find an input from the ECU to signal various gears to the unit.
4) At what point does the OE turbo and intercooler become not efficient?
5) How much HP/TQ will the stock AWD system and tranny handle before is scatters itself all over the road?

3" cat-back and downpipe is in the process, but will not be complete for a few more weeks.

Ok, now onto more specifc questions since the install has begun....

What to do with the BCM on the airbox? Should I make a resistor to trick the ECU into not throwing a code?

I am looking for some inputs from the ECU to signal the system of what gear the car is in. Can I catch these at the main harness?

Leave the BCM plugged in. Because that way the valve is bypassed but also won't set a code.

Let me see what I can dig up for signals.

Some people vent the BOV out and some run the other style that recirc's it.
Also you can run the bypass and the BOV. Or you can buy/make a bypass plate and remove the OEM bypass valve.

You should be able to run 12 PSI all day long.

Tech,

Once again, you have made my life easier!! Thanks!!!

On the BOV, it appears as if it re-circ back to the Vac. pump below the battery. I think I am going to machine a block off plate for the OE DV and elimintate it completely. If it is indeed routed to the Vac. Pump, should I cap the pump then? Should I cap the lines at the BCM as well?

That is the Air pump valve on the back of the motor. The factory bypass is down on the turbo.
It is a triangle looking plate with 3 screws holding it on.

Yeah, I think I am not explaining correctly. The OE BOV (bypass valve) on the turbo has a rubberhose (about 1" dia.) that runs along the side of the head, under the distributor, and then somewhere under headlight/battery area. Where is this line going to and does it need capped if I vent the aftermarket BOV?

The bypass valve only has 1 vacuum line going to it.
The valve you think is it is only for the Air pump and thats it. It isn't tied to the turbo system at all.
In the link below is a pic of the turn see the flat triangle part that is where the factory bypass bolts to.

I think you are thinking this valve is it.

AAAhhhhhhhhhhhh....

I thought this:

http://www.thevolvosite.com/shop/cat...ve-9125623.jpg

was the diverter valve. It looks identical to an OE DV from DSM's,Mazdas, and Subies. That would have sucked. Ok, the DV has 3 bolts to mount it up, I get it now. A pic is worth 1K words.

Thanks again sir!

ok, spent the better part of a day trying to figure out exactly how to get that OE BOV plate off. How is it possible to remove that thing without removing the turbo?

Also, being a former 600HP DSM guy back in the day, had a few ideas.

1) test-pipe: will I get a CEL/code from running one?
2) porting the turbo housing, anyone done this?

The plate is a pain to get out. You have to do creative thinking and moving with tools.

Im not sure on the other things.

There aresome people who port the turbos on turbobricks.com
You can also get a bigger turbo like a 19T.

Yes and when getting a bigger turbo like the 19T, your going to want to upgrade other things, like your internals and rods.
