Default "Modern" replacement for SC-816 with compatible harness?

The backlight for the LCD display (radio stations etc) on my 2000 V70's SC-816 is out. Its a pain at night. Unlike the bulbs behind the individual buttons, fixing this light is a chore I'm not really interested in. While I can eBay a plug-in ready replacement for a reasonable cost (roughly $100), I'd rather get something a bit more modern, i.e., something without a cassette player. Of course, there are a million radio/CD players on the market that would be just fine.
What I'm wondering is whether anyone knows if any particular brands/models have a similar wiring set-up as the SC-816 such that I could just plug it right in, instead of having to re-wire.

There are no aftermarket ones that will plug right in. I just installed a Kenwood X993 CD player with built in bluetooth in my 01 V70 last week. (I will post pics on Monday as the car is not with me right now)
It was pretty pain free. I got a connector from Metra that plugs in to the vehicle's radio harness & the other end which has loose wires connects wire for wire to the Kenwood radio's wiring plug. They are all color coded so you can't mess up. A special antenna adapter is required too. A Face kit also from Metra is need. The whole installation took about 45 minutes to do. Now i have a CD radio, Bluetooth & a ipod connection.
I will update this post with the part numbers you will need & a source for them.
The Connector $19
Antenna adapter $15.50
Face kit $50

You can get these items cheaper if you shop around as I did, below is a illustrated listing.
