Default Motor Mounts?

I have a 98 V70 5 speed manual. 192,000 KM
I've noticed this little thud when going from forward to reverse and as well I am getting a lot of chatter when letting the clutch out.

I tried rocking the motor and it seems as though it moves more than it ought to.

The only mount that seems suspect is the lower torque mount, that small mount at the very bottom.
It appears as the rubber part is kind of chunky.

Otherwise the others look OK, but the motor movement has me a little baffled.

Anyone have history with this and what may be the culprit?

Thanks, Terry

Also check the upper mount on the firewall side.

I had a look at that too. That mount looks pretty undersized and I imagine it basically is a torque absorber?
The big mounts at the front lower and the back are the ones I imagine take most of the load?

The movement I'm seeing, if I shake the motor by the breather cap, leads me to believe it is the large ones that are suspect, but is there a more definitive way to determine this?

Thanks, Terry

Usually when they go bad all together they leak. They are hydrolic you will see like a rust color residue around them.

That must be it then. I was looking at the front lower mount and thinking to myself, geez, that thing is really rusty.
Thanks very much for the information, I appreciate it.

It turns out, after more thorough investigation, the culprit was the lower RF mount near the harmonic balancer.
The rubber had separated completely on that mount.

Ordered a new one from Groton and I was able to install it in about half an hour.

Unfortunately, the exhaust system took a beating as a result of the mount being broken, I think I have a break between the exhaust manifold and the pipe.
That could be painful.
