Default Neutral Control issues

Hi there,

I am new to these forums but certainly not new to Volvo ownership! I've had my beloved 940 sedan for forever, but recently got a 2002 V70 wagon with 110k miles.

The car runs great, but I noticed that the neutral control feature was never turned off. The car clunks in and out of gear when stopped for more than a few seconds. As soon as I realized this I took it to my independent Volvo mechanic who told me that he could do the necessary software upgrades to remove it. He said that it may not work (which contradicts everything I've read online) but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway.

I received a call back today, and they told me that they did a synthetic tranny flush and a software upgrade, but he test drove the car and said that it didn't fix the problem. I don't see how this is possible, since it should be strictly a software issue.

The only thing I can figure is that they either didn't put the correct software on the car, or since they are an independent mechanic they don't have access to the most recent software.

Any help would be much appreciated! This car runs perfectly except for the neutral control issue, which is really becoming a hassle to deal with!

I agree that should have taken care of it.
How much did they charge you for the upgrade?

They didn't charge me for the upgrade because it didn't take care of the problem. The only thing I can figure is that they didn't install the correct upgrade? I didn't ask them if they have VIDAS, but I think I plan on taking the car to a Volvo dealership next.

I don't know what else it could be other than neutral control. I can barely feel the car shift into neutral when I'm on the brake for 2 seconds or so, but when I release the brake it clunks back into drive. The transmission shifts smoothly in all other instances.

I would say either they did the wrong one or what they did for software did not take properly.

Thanks for the help, tech. I'm hoping this is the case, because I can't figure out for the life of me what else the problem could be. Crossing my fingers that the dealer will take care of it!
