New 1998 Volvo v70 owner Needs Advice
This is my first foreign and my first time on this forum. Looks like this car is going to need the power steering rack replaced. Any ideas where to get a reasonably price unit in MA?
Also, there seems to be something missing behind the engine block and above the manifold. There's a huge space there. You can see where the manifold was welded. There is also an aluminium pipe that looks like a slinky leading to the air intake where the air filter goes. It looks like the end of this pipe should be going into whatever seems to have been removed. Does anybody know if there's a part that should be here and what it is?
Can't imaging that this aluminum pipe would have been installed and only come out of the air intake.
Please advise. Can't find any diagrams or schematics for this engine to date.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Have you check the suppliers linked to this site? Also www.iPDusa.com sells them.
If I were you, I would check with my mechanic to see what they recommend.

I think someone repaired the exhaust manifold by welding a new flex section on. I've done it twice. If the exhaust is quiet, don't worry about it.
There is a lot of space between the engine and firewall. It's nice to have that much room to work...on the exhaust. The "slinky" hose connects to a heat shield that was not replaced after the exhaust manifold weld. IMO the shield is not that necessary. It pre-heats intake air on cold days. I live in VT where it can be well below zero and it's never been an issue for me.
