My 86 240 DL has had one problem after another, which is eating me alive, especially as I don't have much mechanical inclination and usually have to pay someone to do repairs. I've just dumped $300 to fix alternator [:@], $250 for power steering pump problem [>:]and now have a radiator that is shot according to my mechanic plus a clutch fan that is very weak and needs repalcing, both of which apparently cause the car to run hot. Sounds like those two things are not that hard to do even for me. Am I right? But at what point do I say "enough is enough?" (He has about 150k miles). I like the car for its size, safety and ease of driving for my kids but I'm quickly going broke. Any advice?

 

The Radiator is pretty easy so is the fan.(Don't forget the thermostat)

I would keep it.

Have a general look over and see what it needs and in what order.

 

Thanks Tech! Also discovered broken motor mount and trans mount...OUCH!! and "fixed" frozen a/c compressor (another $50) by bypassing it so at least I have power steering but no a/c...who needs it anyways when living in paradise?
Any idea where is best place to buy a radiator? T'stat is still working; do I still need to replace it? Any pointers on replacing radiator?

I would change the thermostat as well. Just to be safe. I have seen them go bad and blow the Radiator out.
