Default No heat issue

Great forum. I have been lurking but now I need some help.
I have a 1999 V70 XC. The radiator had sprung a leak so I bought a new one. I also replaced the expansion tank and thermostat at the same time. The new radiator does not have the nipple for the small lin going to the expansion tank. I plugged this line off. The car does not over heat, no leaks but I also have no heat. My thought is this line is needed to help move the coolant. It seems to be "air locked".
Am I on the right track?
Thank you in advance
